Fundamental education is a priority for Rotary. In Senegal, Togo, and Cameroon, particularly at the Tsan school and in a school in Lomé, we are working to complete the construction of fundamental schools: tiling, doors and windows, roofing, water supply, toilets, school materials...
These are ambitious projects, but the need is real. They allow children to attend classes in satisfactory conditions, and above all, close to home. In Africa, the distance to reach school remains a major obstacle for many children, forced to walk several kilometers morning and evening.
This distance weighs even heavier on some. Children with disabilities often have to give up school because they cannot make the journey. And girls, too, are too often kept at home for domestic chores, with education still perceived, for them, as secondary, or even unnecessary.
Rotary supports this change. Bringing school closer to families gives every child, including the most vulnerable, a real chance to learn. And that is where hope is born.
